In the fall of 1984, Dwight enlisted in the United States Army, and he served until his honorable discharge in December 1987, earning Sergeant status.

Dwight was united in marriage to Carey Holmberg in Aberdeen, SD, on September 21, 1996. On this day, Dwight gained a son, Christopher. His daughter Shelby completed the family in July 1997.

Dwight was a very devoted husband but also a wonderful father. He embodied kindness, strength, and love in everything he did. Dwight had an incredible ability to make every moment special, whether it was through thoughtful gestures or the way he listened and cared for his family. His unwavering support and encouragement shaped many lives, especially his family, teaching them the true meaning of love and compassion.

Dwight graduated from Northern State University in 2001, where he studied Industrial Technology. He also attended South Dakota State University, where he studied Mathematics. Dwight was a Quality Assurance Technician at 3M, then a Quality Assurance & Production Supervisor at Hub City Manufacturing. Dwight was employed by the state of South Dakota as a Metrologist at the time of his passing.

Dwight and his family moved to Carey’s father’s (Norman Holmberg) farm in 2006 to take over the operation. While on the farm, he enjoyed building fence, farming, and most of all, taking care of his cattle herd.

Dwight enjoyed working on cars and riding his Harley. He also enjoyed hunting with friends. He liked to spend time with family. He loved history and enjoyed watching documentaries and reading. Dwight loved playing softball and played on several teams in his younger years. He also loved watching the Yankees. It was not uncommon to hear him yelling at the TV when they played.

Dwight loved animals, especially dogs. He didn’t hesitate to bring home and care for strays.

Dwight is survived by his wife Carey; daughter, Shelby; son, Christopher (Whitney) Lindquist; grandson, Axel; parents, Bob and LaVonne Johnson; brother, Wylie (Patty) Johnson; nephew, Dustin Johnson; and many relatives and friends.
