Douglas Vaughn Rush, Sr., 68, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2016, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Liz Dieseth officiating.
Refreshments and a time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.
Visitation at the mortuary will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Friday.
Douglas Vaughn Rush was born September 6, 1947, to James Rush Sr. and Blanche (Miller) Rush in Aberdeen. This is the area where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1966.
Doug was united in marriage to Elizabeth Reszler on March 17, 1967, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Doug was employed as a mechanic and farmhand. He continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandkids and watching All-Star Wrestling on television. He especially had a love of car racing, whether it be NASCAR or the local races in which he drove racecars for 15 years.
Grateful for sharing his life is his wife of almost 49 years, Elizabeth Rush of Aberdeen; two sons, Douglas (Dina) Rush, Jr. of Mellette, SD and Peter James (Rebecca) Rush of Northville, SD; one daughter, Amy Jo (Chad) Wright of Bath, SD; nine grandchildren: Trevor Rush, Tessa Rush, Quincton Rush, Blaine Wright, Dylan Rush, Carson Wright, Samantha Rush, Jilani Wright and Mary Elizabeth Rush; and one brother, James Rush, Jr., of Aberdeen.
Doug is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Eva; his parents; one brother, Dale Rush, Sr. and one sister, Shirley Erickson.
