Dorothy Victoria Schumacher

Dorothy Victoria Schumacher, 90, of Sisseton, SD, and formerly of Aberdeen, SD, passed away at her daughter's home on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, in Sisseton.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Chapel, 1620 Milwaukee Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Pastor Jeff Whillock presiding. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

The family prefers memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or The Salvation Army.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, SD, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Victoria Johnson was born on February 20, 1923, to Ejnar and Astrid (Rasmussen) Johnson in Aberdeen, SD. This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1941.

Following graduation, she became employed as the first female meter reader for Northwestern Public Service and remained with them until 1947.

Dorothy was united in marriage to H. O. "Schu" Schumacher on March 16, 1947, in Aberdeen. Their union was blessed with three sons and one daughter. In 1963, Dorothy began a 30-plus year career with Dacotah Bank as a bank teller. She continued to make Aberdeen her home.

Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and in earlier years, was a member of the P.T.A and served as a scout leader. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bridge.

Blessed to have shared Dorothy's life are her sons: Gary Schumacher, of Aberdeen, Tary (Marsha) Schumacher of Katy, TX and Marek Schumacher of Medicine Lake, MN; her daughter, Randa Burrish of Sisseton, SD; six grandchildren: Jamey Schumacher, Scott Schumacher, Brandon Schumacher, Brett Schumacher, Kyle Schumacher and Marisa Haywood; and nine great-grandchildren.

Dorothy's husband, "Schu"; parents, Ejnar and Astrid; two brothers, Calvin Johnson and Al Johnson; and one sister, Signe "Tookie" Bruers; preceded her in death.
