Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Joyce Kolb, 82, Aberdeen will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leola, SD, with Father Russel Homic officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Liturgical wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2014, at the church in Leola. Visitation will be one hour prior to the wake service Monday, and prior to the funeral Mass on Tuesday. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen, SD.
Dorothy was born September 24, 1931 to Arthur and Irene (Mathemeier) Mack in Leola, SD. After graduating from Leola High School she started teaching at various rural schools.
Dorothy and Otto Kolb were united in marriage on June 2, 1956. She attended night school and summer school earning her degree in teaching and all the while helping raise her family. In the summers she could be found canning and pickling, working in the garden and raising chickens for sale. She received her teaching certificate in 1974. In 1967 she started teaching at the Long Lake Colony near Wetonka, later at the Grassland Colony for a total of 27 years. Dorothy and Otto moved to Leola in 1990. Even after her retirement she continued to work as a teachers aid, and special Ed teacher. Dorothy and Otto also could be seen around Leola mowing yards.
She was a loving wife and wonderful mother and grandmother and will be forever missed.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LeRoy Mack, one infant brother Clarence Mack, infant sisters Erdine and Eunicee, and one daughter in law Brenda Kolb.
Grateful to have shared in Dorothy's life is her husband, Otto of Aberdeen, SD, her sons, Kurtis of Leola, SD, Scott and Kent both of Aberdeen, SD. Her grandchildren, Amber and Jordan. Dorothy's brothers, Derald Mack and Gordan (Betty) Mack both of Leola, SD, her sister, Virginia Voje of Moorhead, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
