Dorothy M. Kallas Heinrich, 81, of Aberdeen, and formerly of Leola, SD, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at Angelhaus Regional Basic Care Center in Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian burial is 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery in Leola, SD.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service and rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Friday.
Dorothy M. (Kline) Kallas Heinrich was born April 23, 1934, to Nickolas and Philipina (Geffre) Kline in Leola, SD. This is the area where she was raised and attended rural schools.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Dominic Kallas on November 14, 1956, in Leola, SD. As well as farming with her husband in the Leola area for many years, Dorothy also was employed at the Leola Community Hospital for a short time and served her community as an E.M.T. While living in Leola, Dorothy was a member and past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy and Dominic shared almost 28 years of marriage before he passed away in August of 1984.
Dorothy moved to Aberdeen in 1986. There she met her future husband, Arthur Heinrich. The couple was united in marriage on May 21, 1988. Dorothy became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen, where she was active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Angels Group and St. Mary's Altar Society. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.
Dorothy's faith was very important to her and she loved volunteering and being involved in all types of church activities. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and will always be remembered as being a great cook. Family was also very important to Dorothy and she cherished the time spent with all of them.
Blessed to have shared Dorothy's life are her husband, Arthur Heinrich of Aberdeen; her children: LaDonna (Robert) Leibrich of Sheridan, WY, Bernadette (Daniel) Dreher of Manahawkin, NJ, Gabriel Kallas of Jackson, WY, Michael Kallas of Santa Barbara, CA, Kevin (Mona) Kallas of Leola, SD, Anthony (Cheryl) Kallas of Aberdeen, Sheila (Jay) Schroeder of Watertown, SD, Mark (Angie) Kallas of Lacey, WA, and Jason (Gail) Kallas of Denver, CO; her step-children: Michael Heinrich of Redwood City, CA, Randy Heinrich of Minneapolis, MN and Keith Heinrich of Jamestown, ND; 21 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her brother, Eugene (Jeanette) Kline of Aberdeen; one sister, Dianne (Jerry) Heagley of Fargo, ND; and one brother-in-law, Albert Scheele.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dominic Kallas; her parents; three sisters: Mae Kallas, Adeline Lapka, and Marie Scheele; one infant granddaughter; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Kallas and Ken Lapka.
