Dorothy Berg, 82, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at Prairie Heights Healthcare, Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Father Mitchell McLaughlin officiating. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow at the parish hall after Mass.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake at 7 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Burial will be at the Groton Union Cemetery at a later date.

Dorothy Mabel Dauwen was born December 28, 1940, to Joe and Edith (Jensen) Dauwen in Aberdeen, SD. Dorothy grew up on a farm near Andover, SD, where she attended all 12 years of schooling. After high school, she moved to Aberdeen and worked at Tiffany Laundry.

She married the love of her life, Bob Berg, on April 25, 1962, in Andover. From this union came four children: Betty, Paula, Tina, and Nik. Dorothy then took a position at Avera St. Luke’s where she worked for 30+ years until her retirement.

Dorothy loved her family and she enjoyed holiday baking, encouraging her grandkids and great-grandkids to assist her. She kept herself busy by playing cards and she especially enjoyed playing Bingo any time she could! Dorothy even bowled in a league up until just last year.

Grateful for having shared Dorothy’s life are her husband, Bob; children: Betty (Steve) Tewksbury of Ferney, SD, Paula (Keith) Ingram, of Festus, MO, Tina (Jeff Barloon) Berg, of Forest City, IA, and Nik Berg of Browns Valley, MN; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four siblings: Rose Esparza of Greeley, CO, Kathy Lovaas of Aberdeen, SD, James “Jim” Dauwen of Groton, SD, and Lue (Gene) Nerland of Alliance, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Bob, Lester, Dewayne, and Don; two sisters Gen and Pat; great-granddaughter Dezirae; and great-niece McKenzie.
