Donna Marie Ryman

Donna Marie Ryman 87, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church in Aberdeen with Father Andrew Dickinson and Father Dennis Meier officiating. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be at the parish hall following Mass.

Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in the spring.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 10, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake and rosary at 7 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Donna Marie Meier was born in Mitchell, SD on April 9, 1935, to Anton and Barbara (Held) Meier.  Donna was the third of six children.  She and her family moved to Aberdeen when she was five.  Donna attended Aberdeen Parochial schools and graduated from Central High School in 1953.

Following high school, Donna moved to California.  She worked at Bank of America in Oakland and San Diego.  While working in California, she married Richard Frederick on May 5, 1955.  They were blessed with four children; Wayne, Jan, Laura, and Dale.  The family moved back to Aberdeen in 1962.

Donna enjoyed her career working as a lifelong bookkeeper.  She worked at Kessler’s from 1976-1979, at Office Equipment Company from 1984-1992, and at Sacred Heart Church from 1992-2006.

Donna’s favorite hobby was gardening and canning.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.  Donna was a devout Catholic and was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Parish.  She belonged to the Altar Society, Serra Club, and Light of the World.  Donna also helped serve many funeral lunches and also was involved in other parish ministries.

Grateful for having shared Donna’s life are her four children: Wayne Frederick of Boise, ID, Jan Wockenfuss of Edwardsville, IL, Laura Veal of Aberdeen, Dale Frederick of Killeen, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: James Meier, and Father Dennis Meier; and two sisters: JoAnn Hinman, and Maureen Detmer.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband Richard Frederick; and one sister Carol Thurman.
