Donald Dinger

Donald Dinger, 82, of Britton, SD and formerly of Hecla, SD, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center in Britton.

Donald’s wishes were to be cremated and his memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 511 Main Street, Hecla, with Pastor Sara Sorenson officiating.

Burial follows at the Hecla City Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Dinger was born November 18, 1937, to William F. and Violet E. (Shilhanek) Dinger in Hecla, SD.  He attended school in Hecla and USD in Vermillion, SD.

Donald married Carol A. Riehl on June 21, 1957.  They made their home on the farm near Hecla until March 2007, when they retired and moved to Britton.  The couple raised three children and shared over 54 years of marriage before she passed away on March 6, 2012.  Donald continued to make Britton his home until the time of his death.

Donald liked to be involved in the community.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla and was also active in the Jaycees, Hecla Alumni Association, Greater Hecla Association and Dinger family reunions.  In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Minnesota Twins and Vikings games, fishing both locally and in Canada, playing softball, bowling and hunting ducks, geese, deer and pheasants.  Spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids however, was his true love and passion.

Grateful for having shared Donald’s life are his children:  Jill (Steve) Smith, Donald B. (Lisa) Dinger and Janell Telin (Don Berger); his grandchildren:  Jarret (Dani) Smith, Jami (Ben) Lemire, Kyle (Jenny) Smith, Eric (Stephanie) Dinger, Alison (Scott) Ritter, Brent (Ali) Dinger, Brady (Savannah) Dinger, Troy (Miranda) Telin and Tyson Telin; great-grandchildren:  Gauge, Lily, Leo, Rex, Maddie, Reagan, Raleigh, Augie, Sophia, Evren, Gavin and Christian; his brothers, Dick (Shirley) Dinger and Darrel (Lorraine) Dinger; and his sisters:  Dixie (Russ) Clark, Bonnie (Dan) Olson and Judy (Gene) Skoglund.

Preceding Donald in death were his wife, Carol Dinger; parents, William and Violet Dinger; and siblings:  Harold (Jean) Dinger, Shirley (Delwyn) Tisher and Charlotte Keeter.
