Obituary

Dianne Rasmussen, 82, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully at her home with her girls by her side on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Dianne's wishes were to be cremated, and no formal services will be held. She will be buried alongside her husband at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

In lieu of flowers, Dianne would have loved for you to “pay it forward” to someone when they least expect it.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is honored to serve the Rasmussen family. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Dianne Kay Johnson was born January 14, 1944, to Russell and Virginia (Eggerling) Johnson in Faulkton, SD. She was raised on a farm outside of Orient, SD until the family moved to Faulkton in 1957. Dianne was the oldest of eight siblings whom she helped to raise after their father passed away at age 35.

After graduating from Faulkton High School, she attended beauty school in Minneapolis, MN. She met Paul Rasmussen, and they were married on April 1, 1969. They lived in Minneapolis until they moved to Mellette, SD, in 1974. With four girls, Dianne began babysitting in her home for several families in the area. She was a bookkeeper for Paul’s plumbing business until he was forced to retire due to health complications. In 1996, she began working for the Northwestern School District as a library aide and teacher aide. She loved working with all the kids there until her retirement twelve years later.

Dianne was an avid reader, reading several books at a time until her passing. She enjoyed many years of crocheting and also enjoyed crossword puzzles or any other word games she could get her hands on. She loved watching birds and spending time with her girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a proud enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe in Hayward, WI. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her girls on June 14, 2026. She quickly exclaimed, “This is awesome!” when she realized all her daughters were present together. Those were some of her most precious moments.

Grateful for having shared Dianne’s life are her four girls: Kristina (Tucker Davis) Mechaley, Laura (Troy) Malsam, Anne (Jeff Weismantel) Rasmussen, and Amy (Chad) Jorgensen; siblings Steve (Joan) Johnson, Michaele (Roger) Wahlen, Kevin (Robin) Johnson, Jacque Kervin, and Michael Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Dianne was preceded in death by her loving husband Paul; her father and mother, Russell and Virginia; and her sisters Suzanne Farrell and Beverly Rademacher.
