Obituary

Dennis Cleland, 79, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away after an 11-month battle with ALS on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at his home with his loving wife by his side.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2025, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Gregory Tschakert officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com. Services will be recorded and posted on Schriver’s Facebook following the service.

Dennis Lee Cleland was born to Everett and Charlotte (Lyons) Cleland in Chamberlain, SD, on November 26, 1945. Dennis lived in Mitchell for a time, and then moved to Aberdeen to live with his father at the age of five. He then attended Sacred Heart Parish School.

Dennis worked as a carpenter for Bader Construction for a few years and then worked for Joe Gese Construction for 20+ years. After that, he worked for Northern State University for 19 years.

Dennis married the love of his life, Janice Aman, on July 30, 1965. They made their lifelong home together in Aberdeen.

Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting all sorts of caps, and watching TV, especially cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs!

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice; nieces: Bobbi (Randall) Weber and Lisa (Greg) Mathiowetz; nephews: Ryan Aman and Dean Aman; brother-in-law Leland Vogel; five great-nieces and two great-nephews; and several half-brothers and sisters.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Charlotte; one sister, Barb Vogel; two brothers: Richard Minish and Robert Blow.

Dennis’ family would like to thank Avera Hospice for the excellent care Dennis received and their unwavering support. They would also like to thank Dr. Conklin and staff for their help and support.
