Delores Katherine Gisi was born September 15th, 1929, in Aberdeen, SD, daughter to James and Anna (Hoffart) Gisi, a sibling to four sisters and two brothers.
Delores married George Grote in October of 1948, and they began their family of six girls: Louise, Sheila, Jackie, Jill, Sandy, and Bonnie. After losing George in 1962, Delores dedicated her life to raising her beautiful and independent daughters who gave Delores her most precious gifts: her grandchildren.
Grandma Honey was always up to the task whether it be chasing after us in a full-blown game of tag or cheering us on at our baseball games. We were blessed to spend our summers with her. So many adventures, so many stories, so many memories.
Singing, she was always singing, which was odd for a person who said she didn’t like music. On top of spaghetti being a particular favorite.
We walked everywhere with Grandma. It didn’t matter if it was a quick trip to Sugarhouse Park to shoot the culvert and play in the river or walking through the Uinta mountains where she would create stories using the things we found along the way. She hated the water, but it never stopped her from getting in the river and helping us build a swimming hole.
Grandma Honey and ice cream. There has never been a better pair. She loved her ice cream and passed that love on to her children and grandchildren.
Immortalized by tattoos, summer gardens, and the many words of wisdom she passed on to all of us, she will always be in our hearts and our most special memories.
Delores is survived by her daughters: Louise (Chuck) Perry, Jackie (Mike) Kirchgasler, Jill Haskell, Sandy (Jerry) Kallenberger, and Bonnie Kolb; and her son-in-law Roger Hansen; grandchildren: Becky, Cindy, Jennifer, Brad, Charlie, Sara, Tara, Nicole, Melissa, Benjamin, Christopher, Katie, and John; followed by nineteen loving great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; grandson Cory; and daughter Sheila Hansen.
“I love you more than you love me.” Godspeed Grandma Honey.
