Delbert Dale Gunther, 82, of Frederick, SD, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Gary Compton officiating. Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church.
Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Delbert Dale Gunther was born June 27, 1940, in Ellendale, ND, to Otto and Ruth (Mayer) Gunther. He attended country school in Winship Township and graduated from Frederick High School in 1958. After graduation, Delbert continued to work on his family’s farm with his father.
Delbert was a member of the Maude Evans Horse Club and received many trophies, ribbons, and western horse tack from winnings showing his horses.
Delbert married Karen O’Neill on June 1, 1963, in Ipswich, SD. They made their home near the family farm, near Frederick, for the remainder of his life. It was there he farmed and ranched with his father, and later with his sons, Jay and Tom, and grandson Austin.
Delbert served on the Farmer’s Union Cenex Board, and the Osceola Township Board as Supervisor, and was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen, SD.
Delbert enjoyed dancing, listening to old-time music, especially polka music, playing cards, playing his accordion, and was a member of the R&T Men’s Softball team for several years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and later when he was able, his great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Delbert’s life are his wife, Karen; son, Tom Gunther; daughter, Jill Gisi; daughter-in-law, Faye Gunther, (all of Frederick, SD); grandchildren: Ashley Gunther, Chris Paulson, Austin (Lucinda) Gunther, and Matthew (Heather) Gisi, (all of Frederick, SD); great-grandchildren: Tristan, Emma, Jacob, & Harper; one brother-in-law Duane (Donna) O’Neill of Ridgeland, MS; and several nieces and nephews.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Alfred & Ferol O’Neill; his son, Jay Gunther; sister, Mardella Walker; three sisters-in-law, Marge Walker, Peggy Penfield, and Sharon Miller; two brothers-in-law, Orville Walker, and Fay Penfield; and two great-nephews.
