David Harold Mehlhaff

David Harold Mehlhaff, 72, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Yelduz Shrine, 802 S Main St., Aberdeen.

David Harold Mehlhaff was born December 10, 1950, in Aberdeen, SD, to Harold and Tillie (Binfet) Mehlhaff. He was raised in Aberdeen and attended Aberdeen Central High School, graduating in 1969.

David moved to Rochester, Minnesota, and started what turned out to be his lifelong career in the tire sales business at a tire retreading store. Shortly after starting his career, he met and was united in marriage to Carolyn Shipstead on September 4, 1976. To this union, two kids were born, Joshua and Jacob.

David was employed at several different tire sales companies in the Midwest throughout the years.  David and Carolyn returned to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 2013, and after more than forty years of employment in the tire sales industry, David retired in 2015.

Post-retirement, David enjoyed spending his time playing guitar, fishing, operating a ham radio, and spending time with all of his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared David’s life are his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Mehlhoff of Aberdeen, SD; mother Tillie Mehlhaff of Aberdeen; sons: Joshua Mehlhoff of Maple Grove, MN, and Jacob Mehlhoff of Pierre, SD; one granddaughter, Lilly Helseth; two grandsons, Jaxson & Sylas Mehlhoff; four sisters, Kathy (Mike) Buechler, Mary (Karley) Hoffman, Marsha Mehlhaff, and Ann (Jim) Leverton; six nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father and one niece.

Due to an error on David’s birth certificate, his last name was spelled “Mehlhoff.” David’s wishes were that it was listed as Mehlhaff as this was how it was meant to be.
