David Anthony Beckel, 74, of Aberdeen, SD, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

A Committal Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with Pastor Mike Jacobson officiating.

David Anthony Beckel was born on January 20th, 1949, to Kenneth T. and Mildred Marjorie (Aggen) Beckel. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD. David was the first graduating class of Roncalli in 1967.

David served in the Air Force from Nov. 15th, 1967 to Nov. 12th, 1971. He was stationed in Guam, Alaska, and Rapid City. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

David married Sharlene “Jean” Voight on April 3rd, 1970, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church. David then worked at the post office in Aberdeen SD, in 1972 until he retired in 2004.

David loved to travel and go hunting and enjoyed spending his summers floating down the river fishing in Akaska, SD, where he shared a summer home with his wife.

David is survived by his wife, Jean Beckel; children: Tonya Myers, Jennifer (Lark) Baldwin, Christopher Beckel, and Ashli Beckel, all of Aberdeen SD; four grandchildren, Taylor Baldwin, Mason Myers, Ryliegh Myers, and Dayton Laverdure of Aberdeen, SD; and four sisters Barbara (David) Overland of Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa (Norris) Tiensvold of Sioux Falls SD, Kimberly (Wayne) Larson of Melette SD, and Patricia (Robin) Johnson of Aberdeen, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marjorie; brothers, Timothy Beckel (in infancy) and Jeffrey Beckel; sister, Roxana Block; father and mother-in-law Ordean and Louise Voight; brothers-in-law, Joe Dockter and Jerry Gebhardht; and sister-in-law Jill Smith.
