Daniel Gene Brown was born September 5, 1954, to Walter and Hazel (Siver) Brown in Lake Preston, SD. While in grade school, Dan and his family moved to Andover, SD, and resided there for a couple of years before making their home in Groton, SD. Dan attended school in Groton and graduated from Groton High School with the Class of 1973. Following graduation, Dan became employed with Hoosiers Engineering building highline towers. Dan then furthered his education at Northern State College (now University) and received his bachelor's degree in 1980.
In 1981 Dan met the love of his life who would eventually become his wife, Karen Zerr. The couple was married in Aberdeen on July 28, 2012, and was living in Aberdeen at the time of Dan's death.
Throughout his working career, Dan held a variety of jobs ranging from working at John Morrell and Dependable Sanitation to his favorite job of doing mosquito spraying with his brother-in-law, Dave, for the Aberdeen Forestry Division. His most recent job was printing t-shirts at a local printing shop.
Dan was a simple people person and made friends wherever he went. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right. Whenever anyone had a question about music or sports, they would call Dan. He loved the security of having a plan, but also loved to live for the moment. Life was an adventure with Dan Brown.
Grateful to have shared Dan's life is his wife, Karen (Zerr) Brown of Aberdeen; two brothers: Bill Brown and Randy Brown, both of Tulare, CA; his father-in-law, Jack "Choc" Zerr of Aberdeen; and sister-in-law, Colleen (David) Wratz of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special cousins, the Ibis family; and many special friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hazel; one brother, Mick; two sisters: Mary and Marlene; one sister-in-law, Susie; and several aunts and uncles.
