Daniel E. Engstrom

May 5, 1949 — December 20, 2023

Aberdeen, SD

Daniel E. Engstrom, 74, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his home.

Daniel’s wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with family and friends.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Daniel Edwin Engstrom was born on May 5, 1949 to Edwin and Marion (Johnson) Engstrom.  He grew up on the family farm in Antler, ND. He graduated from Antler High School in 1967. For a few years Dan worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington assembling wings for various planes.

He returned home to take over the farming operations on the homestead.  Dan loved to race cars but only as a hobby, and many times he would challenge his cousins to a drag race.  His favorite car may have been the yellow Chevy Camaro. It was during his time on the farm that he married Twyla Arneson.  They would later move to a house in Antler and Dan then went to work for the Artz Brothers.  Together they had three children.

Dan later moved to Wahpeton, ND with his three children and started a career at Primewood Manufacturing where he made many cherished friendships. After 18 years at Primewood he retired in 2005 and moved to Aberdeen to be closer to family.

Dan was a man of few words and many principles. His dedication to his children was unwavering. He will forever be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather. Wherever Dan is now we hope the Twins and the Timberwolves are winning, the faucets are all reachable, commercials will be at the same volume as the regularly scheduled program, and SpongeBob SquarePants is giggling with Patrick.

Grateful for having shared Dan’s life are his children: Cary (Noni) Engstrom, Heidi Carrels (Matt Prehn), and David (Brianna) Engstrom; siblings, Rose (Barry) Linke, Steve (Deanna) Engstrom, and Pam (Andy) McMechan; eight grandchildren: Skya, Tally, Maya, Mason, Simon, Gage, Aspen, and Jaxen; two great-grandchildren, Keyan and Royal; and many nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother David.
