Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Wolter, 67, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center Aberdeen.

Memorial Service will be 2 P.M., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Heidi Youngquist of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Memorial Service at the Chapel.  A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Cynthia Lynn Barker was born March 8, 1955 to Dorsey and Joan (Darcy) Barker, in Aberdeen, SD.  She attended Simmons Elementary, Simmons Jr. High School, and graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1973.  She also attended college at Northern State University, Aberdeen for one year.

Cindy was united in marriage to Gene Wolter on May 2, 1975, at St. Mary’s in Aberdeen, SD, where they lived and raised their children.  In her childhood, Cindy was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran until she converted to Catholic in 1975 at St. Mary’s, Aberdeen, where she was involved in the church choir.

Cynthia was an original member of the Aberdeen Rural Fire Fighters’ Auxiliary where she served as Secretary of the South Dakota State Auxiliary for a period of time.

Cindy first started working at Tiffany Laundry in 1975 until 1980.  In 1987, she worked as a housekeeper, a laundry attendant, then a front desk clerk at Super 8 hotel in Aberdeen, SD for over 25 years.  She was so good at making beds that she used to win awards and won a trip to San Francisco, CA to participate in a bed-making championship.

On January 27, 2016, Cindy and Gene divorced and she moved into Aberdeen Health and Rehab where she resided until her death.

Cindy enjoyed reading, especially Stephen King novels; music, she sang and played piano, organ, keyboard, and guitar.  She spent time outdoors hunting and fishing but favored hunting deer and pheasants.  She loved to attend and follow Raymond’s (son) Motocross Racing.  Her hobbies included crafts, but mostly she loved to knit and crochet.

Survivors include her mother Joan Darcy of Aberdeen, SD; Tammy (Wayne) Arment of Aberdeen, SD, Cristy (Craig) Kuckleberg of Aberdeen, SD, and Larry Darcy of Aberdeen; her step-mother Carla Barker of Ironton, MN; her siblings, Shawn Morehouse of Lonoke, Arkansas, Sheryl (Tim) Shelley of Ironton, MN, Rodney (Dawn) Barker of Salt Lake City Utah, Scott Barker of Brainerd, MN; three children, Jennifer Rose Wolter of Aberdeen, SD, Raymond Howard Wolter of Yankton, SD, and Jesse Joe (Crystal) Wolter of Aberdeen, SD; and 5 grandchildren.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Dorsey Barker; her step-father, Howard Darcy; her brother and sister, Kris Blake and Tom Barker; and two sons, Gary and Brian.
