Colleen Marie Jones

Colleen M. Jones, 74, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

Colleen's wishes were to be cremated, and a Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Schriver's Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aberdeen Area Humane Society or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Colleen Jones was born on October 4, 1951, to Arthur L. and Marian (Kelley) Callaghan. Colleen grew up on the family farm north of Barnard and attended school there. She graduated from high school in Frederick. She then went on to attend Presentation College and graduated in 1971.

Colleen and Donald Gunther were united in marriage in 1971, and two sons were born: David and Glenn Gunther. They made their home in the Frederick area, where Colleen volunteered with the Frederick Ambulance as an EMT for 13 years.

In 1997, she moved to Denver and married David Jones in 1999. In 2004, they moved from Denver to Lincoln, MO. In 2006, they moved back to the Aberdeen area. Colleen worked at Homes Are Possible, Inc. until she retired. She loved animals, especially her dog, Sparky, and her cat, Fuzz.

She is survived by her husband David; sons David (Kris) Gunther of Aberdeen, Glenn (Tracy) Gunther of Billings, MT, and stepson Bruce (Darbee) Fryer of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren: Cody (Mari) Gunther, Keilly (Chase) Kucker, Anthony (Lizzy) Fryer and Micheal Fryer; most of all she adored her great grandchildren Addy, Jake, Samantha and Jaxon Gunther, Bailley and Mya Kucker, Brooklyn, Kensley and Addelyn Fryer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Megan Dalrymple Gunther, and her infant brother Douglas Arthur Callaghan.
