Claudette Moran

Claudette Rose Moran, 91, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in Los Lunas, New Mexico.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Schriver's Memorial Chapel, Aberdeen.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Claudette was born on March 4, 1935, in McLaughlin, ND, to Claude and Clara (Bearking) Taylor. She attended St. Bernard's Mission School in Fort Yates before continuing her education at St. Paul's Indian Mission in Marty, SD, where she graduated in 1953. Claudette attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, where she studied Office Administration.

On August 10, 1957, Claudette was united in marriage to Tobias Moran at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fort Yates. Together, they made their home in Wahpeton, ND, where Toby taught at the Wahpeton Indian School for nine years. During those years, Claudette began raising their family and devoted herself to caring for her children and supporting her family.

After returning to Aberdeen, Claudette began a career as a Secretary with the Aberdeen Area Office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She continued working until her retirement, after which she remained active in her community and church. Claudette was a woman of deep faith and spirituality. She was actively involved in the "Light of the World " ministry at St. Mary's Parish in Aberdeen, where she devoted countless hours to loving, caring for, and praying for others. Helping people was an important part of who she was, and her compassion and faith touched the lives of many.

Above all, Claudette loved her family. She especially cherished her grandchildren and took great joy in caring for them and being part of their lives. In the final months of her life, she was lovingly cared for by her daughters, Valerie Moran and Beverly Moran, in Los Lunas, NM.

Claudette is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Beverly Moran of Los Lunas, NM, Valerie Moran of Los Lunas, NM, and Mike (Francine Fast Horse) Moran of Aberdeen, SD; eight grandchildren: Drew, Amber, Carli, Sam, Andrea, Miles, Matthew and Zayne; two-great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Piper; and two sisters Mary Lou Miller and Valerie Taylor, both of Omaha, NE.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tobias Moran; son, Marty Moran; parents, Claude & Clara Taylor; two sisters, Hazel Szeliga and Ramona Thompson; and two brothers, Floyd Taylor and Robert Taylor.

Claudette leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion to her family. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and prayers for others will be deeply missed, but the love she gave will continue through the generations of her family.
