Clarabel passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Clarabel Eunice (Van Riper) Daschel was born on September 5, 1920, near Groton, SD to Cornelius and Jennie (Koch) Van Riper. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Groton High School in 1938. She later moved to Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Business College.
On February 24, 1941, she married George J. Daschel and they made their home in Aberdeen. Three children were born to this union: Richard (Nancy) Daschel of Forest Lake, MN, Paul (Shirley) Daschel of Aberdeen and Jon Daschel of Aberdeen.
In addition to raising a family, Clarabel found time to work outside the home. She was employed with K.O. Lee Company, First Bank, and attorneys R.D.Miller, David Ganje and the D.D. Jones Agency, all in Aberdeen. After George passed away in 1993, Clarabel volunteered in the Avera St. Luke’s Gift Shop for another ten years. In 2009, Clarabel moved to Nano Nagle and, most recently, Avera Mother Joseph Manor. While there, she was known for her smile and always an “I love you.”
Clarabel was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a longtime active member of Band 8. She was also a member of St. Luke’s Auxiliary.
Clarabel loved crafts and playing Bridge. George spent many a day driving her from one Bridge game to another. She also enjoyed entertaining, cooking and baking. Many holidays were spent in her home enjoying her wonderful meals.
Blessed to have shared her life, in addition to her children, are three grandchildren: Becky Daschel King, Jon Daschel, and Alex Daschel; and one great-grandchild, Easton King.
Clarabel was preceded in death by her husband, George Daschel; one grandchild, Stephanie Daschel; her parents; two brothers, Floyd Van Riper and Cornelius Van Riper; and four sisters: Vesta Nack, Helen Leise, Mildred Ulrich and Doris Hofer.
