Charlotte "Char" Huizenga, 66, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014, at her home.
Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at New Life Fellowship, 619 8th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Rodney Johnson and Pastor Mark Zimmerman officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
Charlotte "Char" Dornbush was born January 7, 1948, at home on a farm near Westfield, ND, to Cornelius and Elizabeth (Te Beest) Dornbush. She attended and graduated from Strasburg High School in Strasburg, ND.
Charlotte was united in marriage to Arnold Huizenga on September 3, 1965, in Westfield, ND. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Dorena and Christy. The family lived in Westfield, ND, Pollock, SD and Germany before settling in Aberdeen, SD in 1968. Char was employed as a carhop at The Blue Buffalo, Dolly's Sewing Shop, and as a store clerk at The Ben Franklin Store before beginning what would become a 24-year career as an accounting clerk with Klabo Brown-E.K. Williams Accounting Firm.
Char was a charter and active member of New Life Fellowship in Aberdeen. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Char enjoyed knitting, embroidery, doing jigsaw puzzles and sightseeing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Char is survived by her husband, Arnold Huizenga of Aberdeen; daughters: Dorena (Nicholas) Golz of Rosemount, MN and Christy (Joseph) Nagel of Aberdeen; four grandchildren: Logan and Abby Nagel of Aberdeen and Alexandra and Benjamin Golz of Rosemount, MN; her mother, Elizabeth Dornbush; brothers: Verl Dornbush and Roland Dornbush; sisters: Delores (Al) Kuipers, Cheryl Dornbush and Jan Dornbush; mother-in-law, Dorothy Huizenga; brothers-in-law: David (Kristi) Huizenga, Dwight Huizenga, and Jim Hollaar; sisters-in-law: Mavis (Marv) Dutt and Darlene (Ralph) Hanson; and numerous nieces and nephews: Derrick, Calvin, Roxanne, Jean, Bonnie, Sandra, Mardel, Curtis, Crystal, Juliann, Alison, Dorissa, Mark, Lowell, Brenda, Terrance, Dane, Kelly, Renelle, Melissa, Katie, Travis, Gerrit, Nevin, Brent, Arnie and Kayla.
She is preceded in death by her father, Cornelius Dornbush; brothers: Harlen Dornbush and Kenneth Dornbush; sister, Mildred Hollaar; father-in-law, Clarence Huizenga; sisters-in-law: Gladys Seymour and Kathy Dornbush; and nephew-in-law, Eric Dienert.
