Charles "Chuck" Lee Rombs, 57, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father David Janes as Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 4-5 p.m., Friday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by a liturgical wake service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church on Saturday. No visitation will take place at the mortuary.
Chuck's request was that casual dress be worn for the services.
Charles Lee Rombs was born April 17, 1958, to John and Anna (Heier) Rombs, Jr. in Aberdeen, SD. He was raised in Aberdeen and attended public schools.
Chuck met his future wife, Sheila Reis, while working at the Blue Buffalo CafAC. in Aberdeen. They were united in marriage on October 26, 1977 in Webster, SD. The couple made Aberdeen their home where Chuck's career included employment at Control Data, Sheldahl Inc. and Burdette Electric. In addition to his work, Chuck also enjoyed being a volunteer for the Aberdeen Rural Fire Department and was one of only three volunteers from Aberdeen who battled the 1988 fires in Yellow Stone National Park. He continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.
Chuck was a true outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all, he loved his family and always enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities.
Grateful to have shared Chuck's life is his wife of over 38 years, Sheila Rombs of Aberdeen; three children: Jennifer Rombs and her fiancAC., Don Hart, Jason Rombs and his fiancAC., Tera Richter, and Alisha Rombs, all of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; his father, John Rombs of Aberdeen; his mother, Anna Kolasch of Aberdeen; his sister, Peggy Gruenstein of Aberdeen; his step-father, Alvin "Al" Kolasch of Aberdeen; two step-brothers, Russell (Sherry) Miller of Sioux Falls, SD and Trent Kolasch of Aberdeen; and four step-sisters: Char Miller of Aberdeen, Charice (Jeff) Horacek and Chris ("Pudge") Andriash, both of Sioux Falls, SD, and Vickie Kolasch of Aberdeen; his mother-in-law; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his step-mother, Patricia "Pat" Rombs.
