Catherine M. Wangler

Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine M. Wangler, 102, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass on Saturday at the church. Catherine passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.

Catherine M. Schumacher was born on December 28, 1911, in Karlsruhe, North Dakota to Anton and Christina (Klein) Schumacher. At a young age, Catherine and her family moved to Richmond, SD, where she attended school. Following the death of her father in 1927, Catherine began working at Tiffany Laundry in Aberdeen and remained there until the time of her marriage.

Catherine was united in marriage to Wendlin J. Wangler at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen on July 1, 1929. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where they raised three children and shared over 58 years of marriage, before he passed away on November 17, 1987.

In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Catherine volunteered much of her time at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters for over 80 years. She also worked for many years at the voting polls in Aberdeen.

Blessed to have shared in her life are her children: Leonard Wangler of Aberdeen, Irene Hauck of Aberdeen, and Dorothy (Duane) Stabler of Savage, MN; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and half-brother, Sebastian (Carol) Axtman of Pierre, SD.

Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Wendlin; her parents; an infant sister, Elizabeth; five brothers: Mike, Joe, John, Phil, and Tony; half-sister, Helen; daughter-in-law, Gloria Wangler; and son-in-law, Bob Hauck.
