Carolyn Rath

October 13, 1939 — March 10, 2015

Carolyn Rath, 75, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Fr. J. Joseph Holzhauser will be officiating. Carolyn's wishes were to be cremated and burial of her cremated remains will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Hosmer, SD at a later date. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Gisi was born October 13, 1939 to Andrew and Caroline (Schoch) Gisi at Hosmer, SD where she was raised and graduated from Hosmer High School in 1957. Carolyn married Gary Rath in January of 1958 at Aberdeen. They moved to Lead, SD in 1971 where they resided for many years. They were Foster Parents for handicap children for over twenty-five years. In 1993, they return to Hosmer, SD where they lived for a short time. In 1997 they moved to Aberdeen and have resided here since that time. They had six children of their own and one handicapped child that she was guardianship of. Carolyn is survived by her husband Gary of Aberdeen, three daughters, Julie (David) Dittus of Deadwood, SD, Peggy (Roger) Gant of Spicer, MN and Sheryll (Ray) Weisbrod of Rapid City, SD one son, Bruce Rath of New Castle, WY and Scott Nagel of Aberdeen. Two sisters, Katherine Burrer of Hosmer, SD and Frances Grabowskia of Zimmerman, MN, one brother, Andrew (Lois) Gisi of Aberdeen, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, three grandchildren, six sisters and three brothers.
