Carolyn J. Nelson

Carolyn J. Nelson, age 90, of Gulfport, FL, and formerly of Aberdeen, SD, passed away, Sunday, September 13, 2015, at her residence in Golf Port.

Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1429 North Dakota St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Liz Dieseth officiating.

Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Carolyn was born on October 1, 1924, to Frank and Carrie Stassen in St. Paul, Minnesota. She came to Aberdeen in 1964, having lived in various cities in Wisconsin and Minnesota from 1949 to 1964. She graduated from Humboldt High School and attended Globe Business College, both in St. Paul.

Carolyn married Theodore Krause in 1949. She held several secretarial positions, including fifteen years as secretary and bookkeeper in the office of Williams & Gellhaus prior to her retirement.

Carolyn was an active church member all of her life and served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, church office secretary, and church council secretary. She belonged to the Thursday Morning Craft Club and was a volunteer at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

Carolyn married Sydney L. Nelson on December 30, 1971. He preceded her in death. She is survived by two children: Susan K. Lloyd-Davies ((Kenneth Beaudoin) of Gulfport, Florida and Jeffrey W. Krause (Kathryn) of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren: Joshua Krause (Lyndsey), Jonathan Krause, and Megan Gillespie; one great-grandchild, Jackson Krause; and one brother, Rodney C. Stassen (Lucille) of Scottsdale, AZ.

Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
