Caroline A. Lacher

Caroline A. Lacher, 101, of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin, Celebrant.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 4-5 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service and rosary beginning at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church on Monday.

Caroline A. Schaeffer was born February 16, 1918, to Frank and Katherine (Biegler) Schaeffer on the family farm near Richmond, SD.  She attended school at Richmond and Aberdeen, and graduated from Remily’s Beauty School in 1938.

Caroline was united in marriage to Lawrence Lacher on September 29, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  The couple lived on the family farm for 13 years before moving to Aberdeen.  Caroline operated a beauty shop out of her home for many years.  She also worked in the meat department at Tonner’s Piggly Wiggly for several years and later became a Foster Grandparent.  Caroline and Lawrence shared over 65 years of marriage before he passed away on February 1, 2007.  She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

Caroline’s faith was very important to her and she loved praying the rosary.  She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was very active in the Altar Society and volunteered many hours of her time helping with funeral lunches and other church activities.  Caroline was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 60 years.

Blessed to have shared in Caroline’s life are her children:  Donna (Robert) Olson of Stuart, IA, Dianne (George) Dell and Shirley (Dennis) Arment, both of Aberdeen, and Wayne (Michelle) Lacher of Urbandale, IA; six grandchildren:  Derek Arment and Spencer Arment, both of Aberdeen, McKelle (Troy) Moon and Elle (Aaron) Scott, both of Waukee, IA, Dawn (Josh) Heupel of Winter Park, FL and Brent Dell of Stafford, TX; four great-grandchildren:  Hannah and Jace Heupel and Callan and Coley Moon; her sister, Bertha Starner of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Caroline is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents, Frank and Katherine; seven brothers; and two sisters.
