Carol Sukut, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Angelhaus, Aberdeen.

A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Matt Spoden officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Cemetery following the service.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial at the church hall.

Carol J. Ellingson was born on March 29, 1945, to John and Edna (Hoffer) Ellingson in Kulm, ND. She moved to Aberdeen, SD with her family at a young age, where she spent her childhood and attended school.

Carol spent her young adulthood as a stay-at-home mother while also operating an in-home daycare. Even after her children grew up, Carol knew she wanted to continue dedicating her time to caring for children, and this became her lifelong career.

Carol met the love of her life, Bruce Sukut, at a friend’s graduation celebration at Wylie Park. After a two-month pursuit, he finally stole her heart, and they were married on May 11, 1992, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, one year and two days after they met. Together, they made Aberdeen their life-long home.

Carol and Bruce loved to spend their free time fishing together at the New Evarts Resort near Glenham, SD. This became their home away from home, and Carol was always quick to suggest a trip to the river. She earned many trophies from fishing tournaments and, better yet, treasured memories passed onto her family. Carol and Bruce spent as much time as they could with their family.

Carol will be dearly missed by her husband, Bruce; three children; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends; as well as all the children she cared for over the years, on whom she made a great impact.
