Betty Lou Schmitt was born March 14, 1939, in Hosmer, SD, via midwife to David and Ruth (Spitzer) Schmitt. She attended school in Aberdeen.

She married Francis Weigel on January 10, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen by Fr. Ortenmeier. Their union was blessed with three sons.

Betty spent most of her career at a job she loved, which was being a waitress. In her early years, she was a waitress at the Howard Wong’s Capitol Cafe’ and the Sherman Hotel’s Coffee Shop, followed by over 30 years at Kessler’s Kopper Kettle. While at Kessler’s, she had a loyal following of customers that would sit on “her side” of the café. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and always had a smile on her face. Betty retired in 2001.

Betty looked forward to the summer family trips and always enjoyed being outdoors, but didn’t like bugs.

Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her sons: Ken Weigel of Green Bay, WI, and Dave (Theresa) Weigel of Watertown, SD; daughter-in-law, Marcie Weigel of Aberdeen; one brother-in-law, Ray Weigel of California; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Rott of Leola, SD, and Patsy Weigel of Aberdeen, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Francis; one son, Mark; one brother, Delbert; and sister-in-law, Rhodella Schmitt; and her parents, David and Ruth Schmitt

The family would like to thank Prairie Heights Healthcare for 10 years of caring for Betty.
