Betty was born on March 24, 1942, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Casper (“Cap”) and Mary (Seiler) Benfit. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through 8th grade and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. In April 1964, she married Walter Heine of Ellendale, ND, and they made their home in Aberdeen.
Betty worked at Herberger’s department store for several years before dedicating nearly three decades of service to Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. In 2010, following her retirement, she moved to Lakeville, MN, to be near her daughter and family. In November 2022, she moved again to Aledo, TX, just outside Fort Worth, with her daughter and son-in-law.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Betty treasured time with her family. She especially loved being “Gigi” to her great-granddaughter Blaire, who recently celebrated her first birthday. She liked having animals, including her beloved cat Dusty and grand pup Simon, playing in card clubs, volunteering at church, and sharing laughter with friends and family. Betty cheered on her favorite teams, including the Minnesota Vikings and the Indiana Fever. She also loved her “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Got Talent” TV programs, as well as classic country music and ballads from Danny O’Donnell.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jon) Roberts of Aledo, TX; grandson, Eric (Samantha) Roberts of Shakopee, MN; granddaughter, Emily (Cody) Morsching of Faribault, MN; and great-granddaughter, Blaire Morsching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cap and Mary Benfit, her sisters, Mary Weigold and Dolores Green.
Betty was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
