Betty Belle Bruse was born on October 20, 1932, to Albert and Cora (Snover) Bruse in Brown County. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1950. The caption under her picture in the yearbook read "She was as constant as the North Star". Betty was thrilled that she was recently able to attend her 65th Class Reunion.
In her early years, Betty worked at Kresge's Five-and-Dime, The Busy Bee, and Faeth Gas Station. She then met and fell in love with Joseph B. Hansen. The couple was married on April 25, 1957, and made their home on a farm near Mina. Their union was blessed with five children. In addition to being a proud farmer's wife and homemaker, Betty also worked at Ken's Place and The Mariners.
Betty was a 60-year member of the Women of the Moose, as well as being an avid bowler on the Moose League. She also loved music and dancing and, throw in some horseshoes, and she was a happy girl. Betty and Joe did volunteer work at Clear Lake Township School in Centennial Village at the Brown County Fair for many years. Later in life, one of Betty's joys was attending a Bible study group along with her sister, Donna, and close friend, Evonne Gilborne, which was led by her sister Nancy. It was there where she felt her faith grow.
Grateful to have shared Betty's life are her children: Gary (Sue) Albrecht of Truman, MN, Diane (Alex) Schaeffer of Aberdeen, Brad (Laura) Hansen of Thornton, CO, Wayne (Janice) Hansen of Aberdeen and Ken Hansen of Carrington, ND; 13 grandchildren: Tammy, Tracey, Gary Joe, Crystal, Andy, Grace, Alix, Taylor, Connor, Chad, Audra, Dan, and Andrew; 19 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Phyllis Job of Eureka, SD, Nancy Karlen of Aberdeen, and Donna Swearengen of Fort Worth, TX.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; her siblings: Bud Bruse, Mar Bruse, Chico Bruse, and Ann Murray; her stepsiblings, Virgil Grote and Arlene Moline; her in-laws: Hank and Bette Hansen, Arnold and Clara Hansen and Sam and Alvina McClain; and one great great-great-granddaughter, Zoie.
