Betty May Dunker, 93, of Groton, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Golden Living Center-Groton.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Reverend Derek Baum, of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.
Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the mortuary.
Betty May Benson was born May 7, 1921, at Verdon, SD, the daughter of Leslie and Belva (Feller) Benson. She was the third to the oldest of eight girls. Betty attended high school in Conde and Groton, and graduated from Groton High School with the Class of 1939.
Betty married Francis "Cy" Funk in 1940 at Conde, SD. They farmed for a short time at Verdon before moving to St. Paul, MN, where she was employed in the Quality Control Department at Unisys Sperry Univac for 26 years. Following retirement in 1981, they returned to Conde. Cy passed away in October of that same year.
Betty then began working as the coordinator of the Conde Senior Center and continued there for seven years. During this time, Betty, and the late Ruth Evans, started the Tuesday Dinner Program at the Senior Center that still exists today.
Betty married Wallace Dunker of Aberdeen in 1988. The couple made Aberdeen their home and shared 21 years together before he passed away in 2009. Betty became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Groton in June of 2012, where she resided until the time of her death.
Betty was a member of the Senior Citizens, the Moose Lodge and the Shrine Ladies Auxiliary.
Betty was preceded in death by both husbands, Cy and Wallace; her son, Steve; and four sisters: Vella, Norma, Nancy, and Lois.
Grateful to have shared Betty's life are her children: Larry (Bette) Funk of Hugo, MN and Galen (Vicki McNeill) Funk of Forest Lake, MN; three sisters: Doraine Green of Groton, SD, Leslie Ann (Don) Pigors of Ferney, SD and Phyllis Olson of Richfield, MN; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great great-grandchildren.
