Arlin W. Dutenhoffer, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, and formerly of Wetonka, SD, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service being held at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church on Friday.
Arlin William Dutenhoffer was born on April 9, 1937, to Michael and Theresa (Gisi) Dutenhoffer on a farm near Ipswich, SD. He was raised in this area and attended rural school in Edmunds County.
Arlin was united in marriage to Tillie Harty on October 18, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. The couple farmed and raised cattle in the Wetonka area for 50 years before Arlin's health concerns forced them to leave the farm and retire to Aberdeen in 2011. They continued to make Aberdeen their home until the time of his death.
Arlin loved the outdoors and had a life-long passion for farming. He also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Above all, Arlin loved his grandkids and cherished the time spent with them. He will always be remembered by family and friends for his graceful smile.
Arlin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tillie Dutenhoffer of Aberdeen; children: Joan (Ray) Shatzka of Otis Orchards, WA, Ron (Vicki) Dutenhoffer of Westport, SD, Steve (Cathy) Dutenhoffer of Watertown, SD, and Rob (Stacy) Dutenhoffer of Ipswich, SD; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Deloris Fischer of Orland Park, IL and Mary (Jerry) Martin of Aberdeen; and five brothers: Alvin (Audrey) Dutenhoffer of Aberdeen, Don (Karen) Dutenhoffer of Missoula, MT, Marvin (Diane) Dutenhoffer of Aberdeen, Delbert (Pam) Dutenhoffer of Aberdeen, and Les (Della) Dutenhoffer of Ipswich, SD.
Arlin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Mike and Tim.
