Arlan “Andy” Dwayne Anderson, 83, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2024, after a 5-year battle with heart failure.
Public visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel.
A private graveside committal will be held at a later date.

Andy was born on April 7, 1941, in Minneapolis, MN, to Earl and Helen (Manning) Anderson, graduating from Fridley High School in 1960, excelling in wrestling and football. After high school, Andy attended St. Cloud State University on a wrestling scholarship.
Andy and Judy Scherer married in 1961. To this union, two children were born, Heather and Thomas. He then attended the Minnesota School of Business and began a long sales career with the help of many mentors, starting in beauty and cosmetics before transitioning to real estate. He then founded Arlan Realtors, a real estate brokerage in the Twin Cities.
On January 3, 1982, he was united in marriage to Mary Theobald, and to this union, three children were born: Regan, Joseph, and Michael. They relocated from Minneapolis to Aberdeen, where Andy worked for Super 8 Developers, helping lead land acquisition. He also worked in franchise sales with other national motel brands. Andy and Mary operated various local businesses and investment properties, including The Airport Cafe, The Innkeeper Motel, and The Breeze Inn Motel.
Andy enjoyed adventurous road trips with his wife and motorcycle friends, “The Wild Hogs,” retirement in Florida’s Gulf Coast region, along with beach days, boating, and a good game of gin. He enjoyed many days on his deck appreciating wildlife along Moccasin Creek. Andy found much joy in his later years, expressing his creative and artistic side through painting and drawing.
His adventurous and young-at-heart spirit captivated those who knew him. Throughout his life, Andy always kept his head high and spirits even higher, overcoming obstacles with resilience, grit, and a big, bright smile.
Andy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; children: Regan (Tony) Skjefte, Joe (Alejandra) Anderson, Michael (Brock Fischer) Anderson, Heather (Dave) Graf, and Thomas (Brenda) Anderson; grandchildren: Ryan (Charlene) Clouse, Brittney (Daniel) Baumgartner, Kyle Graf, Nicole (Donald) Herbst, Tanner Anderson, Ally Anderson, Bailey Dinger, Ashlyn Dinger, James Schuck, and Ivan Anderson; great-grandchildren: Carter Clouse, Onnika Dale, Braeden Nelson, Colton Nelson, and Olivia Nelson; sister, Barbara (Marc) Anderson; brother, Peter (Peggy) Vagovich; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Helen; brother, Thomas; sister, Cheryl; and stepfather, Frank Vagovich.
