Anna "Ann" Mary (Schwab) Piatz

Anna “Ann” Mary Piatz, 91, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as celebrant.

A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow Mass at the church fellowship hall.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign Ann’s online guestbook and also view her service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary, with a rosary and liturgical wake service, led by Father Andy Thuringer, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Anna Mary Schwab was born on August 18, 1927, to Joseph and Magdalena (Dauwen) Schwab in Andover, SD.  She attended grade school in Andover town and rural schools.  Following graduation from Aberdeen Central High School in 1947, Anna worked at Bradbury Motors, G and P Transportation, and Sears.

Anna was united in marriage to Anton “Tony” J. Piatz on May 31, 1952, at All Saints Church in Andover.  They lived in Aberdeen, building a home in the country.  Ann and Tony raised eight children and shared over 52 years of marriage before he passed away on January 15, 2005.  She continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Ann’s faith was very important to her.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters.  She also belonged to a Fatima Apostolate prayer group and was a charter member of the St. Luke’s Eucharistic Adoration team.  In addition, Ann also belonged to The Brookside Community Club.  She loved being a mom and raising her children.  In her spare time she also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and reading.

Blessed to have shared in Ann’s life are her children:  MaryAnn (Richard) Roduner of Rochester, MN, Jim Piatz of Littleton, CO, Jeanne (Rodger) Atwood of Denver, CO, Dr. Michael (Diane) Piatz of Parker, Colorado, Patty Piatz of Richfield, MN, Dr. Peg (Kevin) Benck of Scandia, MN, Joseph (Terry) Piatz of Aberdeen, and Paul Piatz of Owings Mills, MD; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sr. Josita Schwab of Aberdeen.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her parents, Joseph and Magdalena; five brothers:  Joseph, Anton, John, Charles, and Francis Schwab; and three sisters:  Lena Rausch, Rose Norton, and Sr. Barbara Schwab.
