Aldeen Edward Voegele, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Schriver's Memorial Chapel, Aberdeen, SD, with Pastor Patrick Lewellen officiating.
A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.
Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Aldeen Edward Voegele was born December 16, 1945, to Irene (Bauman) Voegele in Mobridge, SD. He was raised in Mobridge and attended school, graduating from Mobridge High School in 1964. In high school, he played basketball, football, and track. He loved and was always active in various sports. Aldeen was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Following high school, Aldeen enlisted in the US Navy on September 15, 1965, and completed boot camp at the United States Naval Training Center of San Diego. He worked aboard the USS Berkley, guiding missile destroyers. He served bravely in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 67. He was honorably discharged on September 12, 1969. After his discharge, he lived in Long Beach, CA, eventually moving back to Mobridge in 1970. He received many honors and medals throughout his service, some of which are the First Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Aldeen was united in marriage to Debra Jean Schilling on September 12, 1970. Three beautiful daughters were born: DeAnna, Amy, and Jessi.
Aldeen worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a brakeman/conductor from 1970 to 1982. He brought the last Milwaukee train through Mobridge with the crew on March 31, 1982. He then began working for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in Hettinger, ND, and Aberdeen, SD, eventually moving his family to Aberdeen in 1984. He became an engineer after completing the training in Kansas City. Aldeen retired after a long and dedicated career on the railroad in 2007.
Aldeen was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees (NARVE) in the SMART Transportation Division. He was a proud veteran.
In his free time, Aldeen enjoyed golfing and spending time at the family lake home in Mina, SD. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s various events and sports activities. Aldeen had an infectious laugh that could light up a room. He loved cracking jokes and making everyone around him laugh.
Grateful for having shared Aldeen’s life are his wife of 53 years, Debra; children: DeAnna (Daniel) Harber, Amy (Blaine) Jordan, and Jessi Voegele; grandchildren: Paige (Sam) Rawlings, McKaden Kyburz, Delaney Jordan, Madisyn Voegele, Max Kyburz, Alec Voegele, Cole Jordan, and Jocelyn Voegele; great-grandson, Bernard Aldeen “Bernie” Rawlings (named after his great-grandfathers); and sisters, Joann (Tom) Houck of Akaska, SD, and Ramona (Rick) Steward of Hartville, MO.
Aldeen was preceded in death by his mother, Irene; sisters, Jean Imberi, Geraldine Lord, and Linda Voegele; brothers, Dennis Voegele and Douglas Voegele; grandson, Braeden Jordan.
