Agnes Mary Heintzman was born on November 11, 1929, to Frank and Margaret (Heier) Heintzman in rural South Dakota. The family moved to Onaka after the passing of her father in 1929. Agnes’ mother married Joe Binfet in 1932. The family settled northeast of Onaka in Edmonds County where she attended Hillside School.

Agnes met her future husband, George P. Imberi, in the underground tunnels at St. Luke’s Hospital while working as a nurses’ aide. They were joined in holy matrimony on September 3, 1949. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Linda, Debra, Randy, and Scott.

Agnes was a great homemaker. She enjoyed canning pickles, various vegetables, meats, and jellies. But everyone’s favorite was her pickled watermelon. She spent time embroidering dish towels, tablecloths, and pictures. Taking care of her backyard was a passion of hers. She loved caring for all the flowers she had planted over the years. She treasured every moment while babysitting her grandchildren. Mom would never say no to trips to the casinos! Agnes worked part-time in the laundry room at the AmericInn after George passed away on May 6, 1999.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Linda James, Debra (Tim) Holzer, Randy (Laurie) Imberi, and Scott (Chuck) Imberi of Grand Forks, ND; sister, Ann Vetch of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Lucille Binfet of Pipestone, MN; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret; stepfather, Joe Binfet; husband, George; seven sisters: Tillie Mehlhaff, Rose Fix, Mary Heiszler, Clemie Vetch, Josephine Zacher, Emma Waldman, and Katie Waldman; five brothers: Johnny Heintzman, Pete Heintzman, Roy Heintzman, Leonard Binfet, and Liople Zacher; one son-in-law, Terry James; and two great-grandchildren: Madyson James and Derek Cumings.

Agnes’ family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Mother Joseph Manor for their exceptional care.
