Aaron Mitzel, 50, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen with Father Andrew Dickinson officiating.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake and rosary at 7 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Burial is at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship and luncheon following the Burial.

Aaron Lawrence Mitzel was born March 6, 1971, in Grand Forks, ND to Ambrose and Mary (Lipp) Mitzel. He attended Roncalli Catholic High School and graduated in 1989. He then attended Northern State University for a year before transferring to the University of South Dakota where he got his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

Aaron was hardworking and passionate about all of his jobs. During high school, he worked at Pizza Hut and Scotty’s. During and after college, he worked in the construction business. Aaron finally settled on a career with Northern Valley Communications as a Computer Technician, which he loved.

Aaron was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the YMCA, and loved golfing at the Lee Park golf course. He also enjoyed bicycling, working out at the YMCA, The Dallas Cowboys, archery deer hunting, Aberdeen City League sports, playing ping-pong, and spending time with his family, especially his daughter Erica and his nieces and nephews. Aaron was a big sports fan and enjoyed watching the Northern State University basketball games. He thoroughly enjoyed playing any game they wanted to play with his nieces and nephews. Aaron could make them laugh like nobody else.

Aaron is survived by his daughter, Erica; his parents Ambrose and Mary; his brother Carey (Jill) Mitzel, and their children Brennan, Conner, and Paige; his sister Tara Schaeffer and her daughter Kaya.

Aaron was preceded in death by his grandparents; six uncles; and one aunt.
