Aberdeen, Ronald John Schmidt 82, passed away Sunday, August 4th 2019, at Avera Hospital with his wife Bernadette at his side.
Visitation will be 5-7pm with wake to follow on Thursday August 8th, 2019 at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory 414 5th Avenue NW Aberdeen with Deacon Peter Mehlhaff officiating.
Mass of a Christian burial will be 10:30 am Friday August 9th, 2019 at St. Marys’ Catholic Church 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen with Father Michael Griffin as celebrant.
Burial will take place at St. Marys’ cemetery in Aberdeen. Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Ronald John Schmidt son of Anton and Theresa (Deis) Schmidt was born in Aberdeen SD on February 21st, 1937.
Ronald fell in love with Bernadette Rieger the first day of kindergarten at OM Tiffany, was a graduate of Central High School, and went on to marry her on July 16th, 1955 at St. Marys’ church in Aberdeen. They shared a lifetime of love.
They lovingly raised four children in Aberdeen. Ron was a spiritual man who loved his family, judged no one, was selfless and generous, he was passionate about life was an extraordinary story teller with great humor.
Ron was very active in the community with the Roncalli Booster Club, Aberdeen Jaycees, Board member at the Alexander Mitchell Library, Board member at Mother Joseph Manor, Elks Exalted Ruler, President of the Realtors Association and Board member Northwest Mutual.
He was owner of Misters Menswear for over twenty years and then went on to become the founder and owner of Real Estate Associates until his retirement.
He is proceeded in death by his father Anton Schmidt, mother Theresa (Deis) Schmidt, brother David Schmidt. Survived by his wife Bernadette, children Corinne Wills (James), David Schmidt (Ann), Vanita Lund (John) & Annette Schutz (Mark); grandchildren: Benjamin Schutz (Courtney), Justin Engler (Sara), Dominic Schmidt (Annie), Alycia Cooper (David), David Hancock, Derek Schmidt, Michael Schmidt (Ashley) & Adam Schutz: 13 great-grand children. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Schile (Lawrence) and brother Charles Schmidt (Sandra).
