Robert Dale Michael Kuntz was born February 14, 1939, in Aberdeen, SD to John Carl and Elizabeth (Krick) Kuntz.  This is the area where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1957.

Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Cooper on November 15, 1958, in Aberdeen.  The couple made Aberdeen their home, where they raised their five daughters: Marybeth (Jim) Bird of Aberdeen, Jodie (Craig) VanDeRostyne of Mantorville, MN, Karla Kuntz Stangl of Aberdeen, Pauline (Chris) Wallis of Thornton, CO and Paula (Greg) Hayes of Jamestown, ND.

Bob farmed the Kuntz family homestead for many years.  Following retirement, he worked at South Dakota Wheat Growers.  Bob and Barbara shared nearly 55 years together before she passed away on September 24, 2013.  Bob continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.

Bob was a true family man.  His wife and daughters came first in his life, followed by the many friends he made through his daily visits with the Palm Garden staff and customers, Kessler’s Meat Department staff and cashiers, as well as the staff at Wheat Growers and the customers and employees of the South C Casino.  Bob will be remembered by all for his positive attitude and always being “on top of the world”.  Often times he could be found sitting on the patio at The Palm Garden entertaining all with his love of life.  He also loved driving out to the family farm to enjoy the scenery and visit with his neighbors.

He will be greatly missed by all of his grandchildren: Rob Kuntz, Katie and Johnny Walterman, Joseph, Emily and Mark VanDeRostyne, Elizabeth and Alexandra Wallis and Chris Stangl, Mary Anne (J. J.) Sitzmann and Jessica Stangl; and his two great-granddaughters, Rylie Stangl and Lavender Halstead.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one sister, Rita Andree.

We, Robert’s family, wish to express our sincere appreciation for all the loving care he received from all who loved and cared for him.  We are especially grateful to Carlyle Mardian for his special friendship and the many hours he spent with Bob.
