Richard Gene Kahre, 68, of Mina, SD, and formerly of Huron, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at his home. His wishes were to be cremated.
Visitation, with family present, will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Welter Funeral Home, 267 3rd St. SE, in Huron.
A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2018, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Brady Finnern officiating.
Visitation at the mortuary will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Friday.
Refreshments and fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.

Richard Gene Kahre was born April 11, 1950, in Hot Springs, SD to Irvin and Violet (Longcor) Kahre. He was raised on the family farm SW of Wolsey, SD and attended school in Wolsey.
Following graduation from Wolsey High School, Richard joined the Army National Guard Engineering Company in Huron, SD in 1969. He served until 1979, when he received his Honorable Discharge.
Richard was united in marriage to Jackie Weikum on January 16, 1971, in Huron. The couple made Huron their home, where Richard became employed with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. In 1988, he was transferred to Aberdeen and remained working with the DOT until the time of his retirement in 2008. Richard and Jackie made their home at Mina Lake, where he continued to reside until his death.
Richard was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 27 years. He loved spending time outdoors camping and working in his yard. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed woodworking.
Grateful to have shared in Richard’s life is his wife of 47 years, Jackie Kahre of Mina, SD; his son, Aaron (Tina) Kahre of Sartell, MN; three grandchildren: McKenzie, Noah, and Hunter; and one sister, Cindy (Howard) Alter of Huron.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
