Paul Newcomb Obituary

Paul E. Newcomb, 62, of Aberdeen, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Richard Zephier, of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, officiating.

Paul’s wishes were to be cremated with burial taking place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the mortuary on Wednesday.  Family and friends may sign Paul’s online guestbook and also view the service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Paul E. Newcomb was born in Port Lavaca, TX on October 13, 1957 to Elmer E. and Joan J. (Cressman) Newcomb.  He and his family relocated to South Dakota and moved around the state with his father's job before settling in Aberdeen.  Paul graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1975.  After graduation, he joined the National Guard and attended class at Northern State College and also in Vermillion at USD.

Steven Newcomb, Paul's son, was born in 1983 and the two moved back to Aberdeen to help his parents launch Egadz Embroidery.  Later, his daughters, Emily and Coryn were born in Aberdeen and he has lived and worked in town with his family ever since.

Paul married his wife, Cathi Lias, on June 23, 2017 in Aberdeen.  They enjoyed camping and flying larger-than-life kites at festivals across the tri-state area joined by Paul's brother and life-long best friend, Ted Newcomb.

Those who knew Paul will remember him as a brilliant nerd brain and a jack of all trades.  He had a technical mind, keen eye, and a strong heart for all living things.  He was known for celebrating the holidays extravagantly for the love of bringing a smile to your face.  The mechanical haunts he built made Halloween his favorite holiday.  Paul had a tool for every skill and always had a hand to lend, whether you were a stranger or a friend.  Paul is remembered for his charismatic enthusiasm which he held for life and everything he loved.

Paul is survived by his wife, Cathi Newcomb; his brother, Ted Newcomb; his two daughters, Emily Newcomb and Coryn Newcomb; his step-son, Ryan Metter; his niece, Ericka Bachmayer; and his nephew, Michael Newcomb.

Preceding Paul in death is his son, Steven Newcomb; and his parents, Elmer Newcomb and Joan Newcomb.
