Miles J. “Mac” McNickle, 80, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018, while doing what he loved to do, hauling grain for Crawford Farms.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Lichter as celebrant and Father David Janes con-celebrating.
Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the church, followed by a liturgical wake service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass on Saturday.
No visitation will take place at the mortuary. Friends may sign Mac’s online guestbook and also view his service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Memorials are preferred to either Safe Harbor or The Aberdeen Catholic Foundation – Roncalli Student Tuition Assistance Fund.
Miles J. “Mac” McNickle was born August 17, 1938, in Aberdeen, SD to Miles J. and Elizabeth J. (Wallen) McNickle. At a young age, Mac moved to Doland, SD and was raised by his paternal grandmother. He attended school in Doland, graduating from Doland High School with the Class of 1956.
Mac then entered the United States Army National Guard and served his country until he was honorably discharged.
Mac was united in marriage to Louise M. Erickson on November 17, 1956, in Doland. The couple made Doland their home and Mac began his truck-driving career. In 1963, the family moved to Aberdeen, where Mac became employed with the Aberdeen Fire Department. He quickly earned the rank of Lieutenant and served the community for many years. Mac chose to take an early retirement and returned to his passion of driving semi for Hyman Freight Lines. He later worked for area farmers hauling fertilizer and grain and was most recently employed for the Crawford family.
Mac and Louise shared over 50 years of marriage before she passed away on May 15, 2007. He continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.
Mac was a devoted, life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he ushered for many, many years. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Blessed to have shared in Mac’s life are his daughters, Margaret J. McNickle of Fargo, ND and Marilyn Zimmerman of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Loretta (Elmer) Wolf of Aberdeen; and half-brothers: Michael (Dale) McNickle of CA, Monty (Laurel) McNickle of Bath, SD and Marshall McNickle of Bullhead City, Arizona.
Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; and his parents.
