Marjorie Ann Pitzl was born March 26, 1936, in Webster, SD to George and Elvera (Opitz) Pitzl.  She grew up in Eden, SD, and attended grade school in Eden and Webster before enrolling in an all-girl Catholic school in Mankato, MN.  Marjorie furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen and was a member of Presentation’s first graduating class.  She then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Fred Swanson at Eden, SD in 1961.  The couple moved to Sioux Falls, where they lived for several years before returning to Aberdeen.  While living in Aberdeen, Marjorie was employed at the Registrar’s Office at Presentation College before beginning what would became a nearly 25-year career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she remained until the time of her retirement.  Marjorie and Fred shared 36 years of marriage and raised two sons before he passed away in November of 1997.  Marjorie continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Marjorie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, visiting friends, and spending time with her family.  Marjorie will be remembered as a strong-willed, yet very kind, woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Blessed to have shared in Marjorie’s life are her sons:  Earl Swanson and Eric Swanson, both of Aberdeen; two brothers:  George (Joy) Pitzl of Lake City, SD and James (Jan) Pitzl of Eden, SD; three sisters:  Georgia (Walt) Barr of Eden, SD, Mary Ellen Heitmann of Aberdeen and Maureen (Howard) Beam of Grand Junction, CO; one brother-in-law, Don Moch of Kintyre, ND; one sister-in-law, Betty Artz of Aberdeen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Jeanne Moch; her parents-in-law, Fred Sr. and Elizabeth Swanson; and two brothers-in-law: Don Artz and Duwayne Heitmann.

Marjorie’s family wishes to thank the entire staff of Avera@Home Hospice for the excellent care given to Marjorie and the compassion shown to them during this difficult time.
