Luella Cecilia Kline was born on August 24, 1933, to Rochus “Roy” and Rose (Sahli) Kline in Aberdeen, SD.  She spent the first eleven years of her life in Leola, SD and then moved to Aberdeen with her father and two younger brothers after her mother passed away.  Luella helped her father raise her brothers who were ages 9 and 4 at the time. She graduated from 8th grade at Riverside School.

Luella worked at Woolworth’s, behind the deli counter as a waitress, during the early 1950’s.  In 1972, she began working at Control Data on the line as a solder-assembler. Luella retired for the first time in 1988.  She then was employed for a few years as a companion for a homebound lady before going back to work, this time at Banner Engineering, where she worked for a few more years and eventually retired for the final time.

Luella lived at the Sherman Apartments from 1999 until 2018 and loved her neighbors who lived there and made many friends. She moved to Avera Mother Joseph Manor in August of 2018, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.

Luella was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen for 75 years.  Her favorite pastime when she was younger was traveling with Jim and Rose and their family going everywhere from Canada to the Black Hills.  More recently, Luella loved playing bingo. She also enjoyed walking everywhere, doing word search books, and putting together puzzles.  Luella was very proud of all the accomplishments of her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was especially proud of the fact that her first great-grandchild, Maleah, shared her birthday.  Luella loved her family and always made sure everyone had enough food before she served herself at a family get-together.

Luella is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie (James) Kraft of Aberdeen; two grandchildren: Tracie (Craig) Eschenbaum of Aberdeen and Joshua (Heidi) Kraft of Rapid City; six great-grandchildren:  Maleah, Victoria, and Zachary Eschenbaum and Maddux, Addilynn, and Banksten Kraft; nephews, Jeff and Andy Kline of Sioux Falls; niece, Stephanie Olson of Sioux Falls; and many cousins.

Preceding Luella in death are her parents, Roy and Rose Kline; her brothers, Donald and Henry Kline; her sister-in-law, Gloria Kline; and great-nephew, Tallon Kline.

Luella’s family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Avera Mother Joseph Manor for making her feel at home and taking such good care of her and also being compassionate to her family.  They also wish to express a big thank you to Kathy Gubin and the hospice team for the care and comfort given to Luella and her family.
