Loretta Marie (Baer) Neuhardt was born October 21, 1945, in McPherson County to Edward and Caroline (Fischer) Baer.  She grew up on a farm 11 miles north of Ipswich, SD, and attended rural school.  Loretta graduated from Ipswich High School in 1963 and furthered her education at Presentation College.

Loretta was united in marriage to LeRoy Neuhardt on October 1, 1964.  That same year, Loretta began working for HKG Architects, where she was employed for 47 years before retiring in May of 2011.  She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

Loretta was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she served on many Boards, taught Sunday school, and was an active member of the ladies groups with LWML.  She was a life member of Germans from Russia Heritage Society in Bismarck, ND, a Secretary of Aberdak Senior Club, a whist card club member for 45 years, and also a member of an exercise and coffee group.  Loretta’s hobbies included crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening, genealogy, and playing cards.  Her real love in life, however, was her four grandchildren and her family.

Loretta is survived by her husband, LeRoy Neuhardt of Aberdeen and their two children:  son, Lynn Neuhardt of Lakeside, CA and his children, Nathan Neuhardt of Miramar, FL and Adam Neuhardt of Lakeside, CA and daughter, Lori (Todd) Salfrank of Mina, SD, and their children, Courtney Salfrank and Brenden Salfrank of Mina, SD; her sisters:  Mary Gruenstein, Fran Mastel and Marcie (Greg) Welch, all of Aberdeen and Roberta Clemen (Dave Anderson) of Apple Valley, MN; brother-in-law, Patrick Neuhardt of Rapid City, SD; and five sisters-in-law:  Wilma Haupt of Yuma, AZ, Cora Burrer of Aberdeen, Dora (Chet) Lane of Yuma, AZ, Paulette Schaeffer of Phoenix, AZ and Deb (Al) Holzer of Stratford, SD.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, great-niece, Mikayla Gruenstein; and brother-in-law, Ron Mastel.

Loretta’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Conklin and his staff, as well as the entire staff of ManorCare Health Services for the exceptional care and compassion given to Loretta.
