   Memorial services for Leona Mae Volk, 72, of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1410 North Kline Street, Aberdeen, with Father Richard Zephier officiating.

     Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, followed by a public prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

     Leona passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

     Leona Mae (Prouse) Volk was born April 10, 1944, in Ipswich, SD, to Ray W. and Evelyn (Sorenson-Jones) Prouse.  She was raised and attended school in Aberdeen.  Following graduation from Aberdeen Central High School, Leona furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen.

     Leona was united in marriage to Aloys A. Volk on June 24, 1980, in Aberdeen.  The addition of seven stepchildren completed their family.  In addition to being a housewife, Leona also worked outside the home waitressing at Carol’s Kitchen and Dan’s Café, both in Aberdeen.  She continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

     Leona was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry Committee, held the position of Junior Warden of the Property Committee and also taught Sunday school.

     In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and sewing.

     Grateful to have shared in Leona’s life are her husband of 36 years, Aloys “Al” Volk of Aberdeen; her stepchildren:  Todd Volk of Billings, MT, Patrick Volk of Denver, CO, Devin Volk of Ft. Yates, ND, Daniel Volk of Bismarck, ND, Jana (LeLewis) Gipp of Ft. Yates, ND, and Danielle Volk of Bismarck, ND; her sisters, Raye Lynn  (Christopher) Erickson of Lisbon, ND and Peggy (David) Delong of Fontana, WI;  13 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

     Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lester Prouse; and one stepson, Robert Volk.
