Laverne Lahammer Obituary

Laverne Virgil Lahammer, 84, of Aberdeen, SD, died Friday, April 27, 2018, at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn, SD, after a long illness.

Laverne’s wishes were to be cremated with public services being held at a later date.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen, SD, is in charge of arrangements.

Laverne was born to Leonard and Viola (Haaland) Lahammer on March 28, 1934, in Veblen, SD. A graduate of Veblen High School, he served in the US Army at bases in Texas and Hawaii` for two years. He married Helen German on January 28, 1956, and they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he owned a paint contractor business. They became the parents of seven children - Rocky, Randy, Michael, Warren, Neil, Michele, and Marsha - and eventually settled on a farm outside Bath, SD, where they lived for many years. Laverne was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he also enjoyed taking care of his livestock and tending his garden. He was a devoted, longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Above all, he loved and valued his family.

Laverne was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lavonne Bell (Paul), and his sister Irene Olson (Dave).

He is survived by Helen, his wife of 62 years, of Aberdeen, SD; his son Rocky (Janice) of Aberdeen, SD; his son Randy (Victoria) of Sioux Falls, SD; his son Michael (Lorna) of Mount Vernon, IA; his son Warren (Robyn) of Rapid City, SD; his son Neil (Meg) of Red Wing, MN; his daughter Michele Pechacek (John) of Cary, NC; his daughter Marsha Moseley (Douglas) of Richmond, VA; his brother Eugene (Karen) of St. Louis Park, MN; his sister Deloris Anenson (Larry) of Uniontown, OH; his brother Galen (Peggy) of Aberdeen, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His family would like to thank the staff at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home, who took such good care of him.
