Janice Marie (Garman) Geffre

Janice Marie Geffre, 78, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2019, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Reverend Ruth E. Clendenin of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.

Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.  

Visitation at the mortuary will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, and one hour before the service on Friday.

Janice Marie Garman was born July 28, 1941, to Carlton and Anna (Mehlhaff) Garman in Wetonka, SD.  This is the area where she was raised and attended school in her youth.  Janice later moved with her family to the Spearfish, SD area and graduated from Spearfish High School.

Janice was united in marriage to Leonard Geffre in Aberdeen in November of 1968.  The couple made their home in Aberdeen, where Janice’s employment included working at the Starlight Café, in the Food Services Department of Northern State College, as a cook at the Bath Truck Stop, and in Food Services with the Aberdeen Public School System.  Her most recent job was working with the Head Start Program in Aberdeen, where she remained until the time of her retirement.

In her spare time, Janice enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, doing cross-word puzzles, and listening to Country music.  She was also an avid reader.

Grateful to have shared in Janice’s life is her husband of almost 51 years, Leonard Geffre of Aberdeen; her daughters, Sheryl Wattier and Jena Geffre, both of Aberdeen; her stepdaughters:  Barb Gardner and Lori Geffre, both of Aberdeen and Lisa Cavanaugh of Estero, FL; her stepsons:  Ronald Geffre of Seattle, WA and Duane Geffre of Aberdeen; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Anna; one grandson, Justin Geffre; one stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Gardner; and one sister, Arlyce Geffre.
