Frances Ann Frericks was born July 13, 1934, to Ernest and Frances (Waldenberger) Frericks in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up on a farm near Mellette, SD with two sisters, Ernestine and Eva. The three of them enjoyed playing with farm animals and helping their father on the farm. As the last of the three daughters, Fran became the steadfast “hired hand,” affectionately known by her father as “Bill Deaner.” She was a graduate of Mellette High School and then graduated from Northern State College.
On May 2, 1960, Fran was united in marriage to Eugene Littel in Mellette. She worked for the SD Department of Labor, utilizing her knowledge of short hand, before becoming a homemaker. The couple made their home in Aberdeen where they raised their four children.
Fran was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She would attend weekly mass with her grandchildren who attended school at Roncalli. Fran enjoyed many activities including reading the newspaper, writing letters to pen pals, cheering for her grandchildren at countless sporting events, and watching the Cubs play baseball. She also loved genealogy and researching family history.
Fran will be remembered as a kind, calm, and gentle woman who was continuously steadfast in her faith, with her quiet and tender spirit.
Blessed to have shared in Fran’s life are her children: Joelle (Kevin) Graff, Brenda (Monte) Hanson, John (Elsa) Littel and Steve (Lisa) Littel; 12 grandchildren: Sandy, Alex, Micah, Tage, Taylor, Luke, Hannah, Elizabeth, Monica, Josh, Josie and Rachel (with one great-grandchild due in November); and two sisters, Ernestine Kramp and Eva (Ike) Oberle.
Fran is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; and her parents, Ernest and Frances.
Fran suffered gracefully with Alzheimer’s Disease for the last four years. Her family wishes to thank the faculty and staff of Angelhaus, who took care of Fran with great love and kindness.
