Eleanir Winifred Wallace was born May 16, 1930, to Russell and Pansy (Wheelihan) Wallace in Ellendale, ND.  This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Ellendale High School with the Class of 1948.

Eleanir was united in marriage to Clarence “Blackie” Prestegard on December 17, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Eleanir’s career of caring for others began at St. Luke’s Hospital and Dakota Midland Hospital.  She then earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in Wahpeton, ND and later, her Registered Nursing Degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen, before returning to St. Luke’s with an LPN/RN status.

Eleanir and Blackie raised five children and shared 28 years of marriage before he passed away on June 30, 1978.  Eleanir continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Eleanir was an active, life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, where she was a member of Sacred Heart Altar Society’s Band 6-8.  She also belonged to numerous organizations including:  St. Luke’s Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagle’s Club Aerie #632 and the Irish Community.  In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling, bowling, and attending local and out-of-town events.

Blessed to have shared in Eleanir’s life are her children:  Warren Prestegard of White, SD, Julie Prestegard of Aberdeen, and Tom Prestegard of Edwards, CO; five grandchildren:  Jessie, Megan, Michael, Courtney, and Nicole; seven great-grandchildren; her son-in-law, Yogi Jangula of Rapid City, SD; her special companion, “My Cat Gracie”; and her special, dear friend, Georgia Fossum.
